Property safety
In general, Croatia is a very safe country, with a low crime rate. No cities or towns are marked as a high safety risk, but as with any popular tourist destination, make sure to follow standard precautions.
Personal belongings and documents
- Keep personal documents and money separate; keep your bank card separately from your PIN number
- Make sure your personal belongings are stored properly in your bag or clothing to avoid the risk of pickpocketing.
- Keep copies of all important documents and store your original documents in a safe place
- Do not leave your personal or vehicle documents in the vehicle
Secure places for storing valuables
- Use safety deposit boxes or lockers in your accommodation units for storing valuables
- At bus and train stations, airports and ports, store your luggage in authorised storage units
- Use lockers on beaches; if there are none, do not leave your personal belongings unattended
Administrative information
Visas and stay permits
- As of 1 January 2023, the Republic of Croatia applies the same visa rules as other countries of the Schengen Area
- Croatian diplomatic missions and consular offices issue Schengen visas (visas type A and C) and national long-term visas (visa type B)
How to calculate the duration of your stay in the Schengen Area
The time spent in the Republic of Croatia is added to the time spent in other Schengen member states.
Third-country nationals, regardless of whether or not they are required to hold a visa, may stay in the Schengen Area for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.

Stay registration
Legal and natural persons who provide overnight accommodation services are obliged to register tourists in the eVisitor system within 24 hours of arrival.
Lost or stolen documents
- Report the lost passport or another official document to the nearest police station or call 192.
- The police shall issue a confirmation of the submitted report, with which you should report to the nearest diplomatic mission or consular office
